Happy Monday!
I know this is a stretch but if you ever get the chance to take a trip to Asia you have to visit Tokyo!
It is an amazing city! The people are so kind, even with all the hustle and bustle going on, they truly are so welcoming. Think of it like a very friendly New York City.. crazy I know. But it is filled with some of the best shopping I've ever experienced. There are so many places to explore and a million great food spots.
I put together some of my favorite places that we visited the past few times in Tokyo. If I go again I will definitely update this post!
Starting it off are some amazing restaurants we tried:
Sarabeth's in Shibuya train station UNBELIEVABLE!! This breakfast spot was so good. They do not take reservations but the 20 minute wait was so worth it. I got their eggs Benedict and my friend got the egg white omelette. Both the meals were filled with so much flavor! I still dream about that spot.
Another great hidden breakfast spot, A Happy Pancake Omotesando, known for their Japanese Pancakes. These pancakes were so fluffy and and so delicious. They came with a side omelette and a salad with the best dressing ever on top. Also, if you order a coffee they will make an animal character with the cream on top. So CUTE!
For dinner we went to Nobu Tokyo! This is a chain but we figured let's try the best sushi in a place where sushi originated. And let me tell you OH MY GOSH!!!!! The best dinner I think Jack and I have ever had. I definitely recommend the sushi tacos for an appetizer and the tuna tar tar. Both of those were to die for.
Nightlife/fun activities/sightseeing
The Golden Gai Shinjuku was so unique and nothing I've ever seen before. It's about 4 blocks of hundreds of tiny little bars where only 4-5 maybe 6 people can fit. All the bars are on top of each there and they are completely different from their neighbors. We met some awesome people while doing this, since it is so intimate and tiny, you don't have a choice but to chat with the people in there. It was definitely an experience and one of the coolest things I've had the chance to see!
The TeamLab Borderless Museum is so cool! It's a museum full of 3D art and cool photo ops. It's a place definitely worth seeing and taking some fun insta pics! Just take a look at their website and you'll know what I mean! SO COOL!
If you're in Tokyo there's no doubt you're going to visit Shibuya crossing. This is one of the biggest street crossings in the world. And let me tell you there's thousands of people who cross that street at the same time. NUTS! It's so cool and it's right next to the Shibuya train Station. You can't miss it!
We did not get to check out Rainbow Bridge but it looked so cool! This bridge is pedestrian friendly and links mainland Japan to Odaiba. Odaiba is a small manmade island that is filled with restaurants, amusement centers (Ferris wheel overlooking Tokyo), restaurants (sushi spots along the waterfront), lots of shops. Also, not to mention great views of Mt. Fuji from the island. If you don't like bridges you can also take their futuristic Yurikamome train to the island as well!
We also went to a Japanese shrine which was so cool. I don't remember the name of it since it was all in Japanese. But they are all over Tokyo. I highly suggest stoping at one and observing before going up to the stand. I'll link an article about shrines and temples here.
Hotels:
Japan has smaller rooms when it comes to hotels, so we stayed at a few that were spacious, affordable and in great locations.
The first time we visited Tokyo we stayed at Palace Hotel Tachikawa. First off, this is a little further from downtown Tokyo. But it is literally next to the train station, which can get you to Shibuya train station in about 30 minutes. There's a bunch of restaurants and lots of shopping! If you are looking for a bigger room and cheaper price then def go with this route! It was a beautiful hotel!
The second time we stayed in a different area in Tokyo, Shinjuku, which is walking distance to the Golden Gai and a bunch of shopping/restaurants. We stayed at The Grandbelle Hotel. It was very clean and the staff was very accommodating. it was in a great location and it was reasonably priced.
